Kathleen Tonry is an Associate Professor of English at UConn. She is also the Associate Director of the University Writing Center in Storrs. Tonry’s current research includes a monograph project situated between media studies and the history of the handpress. Press Time: Labor, Temporality and the Long Politics of the Handpress traces the uses of “slow print” as an activist and aesthetic form from the fifteenth through the twenty-first centuries. Working through four historical moments, the study follows the handpress to argue that tracing the reoccupation of historical media forms offers a provocative and salient political history up through our contemporary moment. With Gabe Morrison, Kathleen Tonry is also working on a UConn-wide initiative centered on antiracist writing assessments.
