M. Breann Leake
Bre works on adaptation, identity, and authorship in interdisciplinary medieval English texts. She is particularly interested in how identities become revised, rewritten, adapted, and translated in historical narratives. Her dissertation, Rewriting the Historian of the English People: The Afterlife of Bede in Early English Texts, traces mediations of the figure of Bede, arguably the most prolific and respected early English author, discussing how revisions to Bedeâs persona are used to authorize and reinvent religious, social, and political histories. Bre loves any excuse to play with material culture, the history of the book, and the history of the English language in her pedagogy and research.
