Prof. Anna Mae Duane Receives DEI Project Award

Congratulations to Prof. Anna Mae Duane on receiving funding from UConn’s CLAS Dean’s office for her project, Inclusive Histories of Slavery, Freedom and Healing.

A comment from Prof. Duane:

“I was awarded a DEI grant in support of two interrelated projects: my monograph in progress, Like a Slave: Slavery’s Appropriation from the Revolution to QAnon, and a new research project that explores the founding of Black-run nursing schools throughout the South in the early 20th century‌. The second project grew out of conversations with the archivist during my last trip to the Amistad Research Center. I’m hoping that this research on Black-led medical training results in a journal article and material for my class on race and the scientific imagination.”

Many thanks to the members of our Diversity Committee: Profs. Görkemli (chair), Hiob, Marsden, Menrisky, and Winter; EGSA Rep. Lacey, who reviewed the proposal.
