Julie Choffel, Assistant Professor of English on the Hartford campus, has won the 2023 Backwaters Prize in Poetry for 2023 for her piece, Dear Wallace. The manuscript reflects in verse on the legacy of Hartford-area poet Wallace Stevens. Backwaters Press is an imprint of the University of Nebraska Press. They will be publishing Dear Wallace in Fall 2024.
